As you know, since moving to rural Mid Devon with our little French restaurant back at the end of February, it’s been incredibly busy whilst we’ve settled in to our new home, set up a supper club, sourced local suppliers, made friends with our neighbours and generally tried to make ourselves at home here in Witheridge.
We always knew that we would have to get to work straight away in order to make a name for ourselves down here. People have been quick to tell us that it’s a different market in rural Devon than south east London!
Our biggest test so far was a recent tasting event that we held, with local food writers, bloggers and photographers. Nothing like jumping in at the deep end!
The week leading up to the tasting event proved to be really quite stressful. As well as actually cooking, we also had to make sure that our new dining room was ready in time, we met our brilliant new staff members for the first time, and dealt with various other issues too.
The menu consisted of, amongst others, moules gratinées, gazpacho provençal, cote de boeuf and tarte au framboises.

It was a great chance for us to use the produce from some of our new suppliers, such as red ruby beef from Burrow Farm and delicious local mussels from The Exmouth Mussel Company via Devon Quality Fish
The evening itself was a brilliant success. I can honestly say that I loved meeting every one of those who came along, and we’ve been thrilled with their reviews so far. We really do feel like we’re making great friendships along the way, and are now so excited about opening the restaurant and supper club properly in early May.
Here is just a small selection of what people have been writing about us so far:
