VE DAY 75th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION DINNER

  May 8th 2020

May 8th marks the 75th Anniversary of Victory in Europe. On 30 April 1945, Adolf Hitler committed suicide during the Battle of Berlin. Germany's surrender was authorised by his

successor, Reichspräsident Karl Dönitz.

The act of military surrender was first signed at 02:41 on 7 May in SHAEF HQ in Reims and a slightly modified document was signed on May 8th in Berlin where upon the celebrations began here in Blighty and across Europe. The focal point here in the UK was Buckingham Palace and in France where many of our service men and women were still stationed the Arc D'Triumph.

We have been researching menus from around that time in the newly freed Paris and found the most amazing menu from a celebratory dinner held on May 31st in 1945. We've stayed a true as we can to it, whilst adding in vegetarian and vegan dishes and of course our unique Devon twist.
