Well that was May !


Wow! A whole month has whizzed by since we opened our doors and in that time we've met some wonderful guests and cooked with some Devon's finest ingredients.

We've also been truly blessed with a magnificent team. Their hard work and creativity shines through in everything they do and their front of house skills are second to none, they also keep me on my toes ! Then in the kitchen with me is Daniel Cheetham who is an incredibly talented sous chef who has worked at the Mount Pleasant and at The Stag. He's an invaluable asset and we're so lucky to have him.


The beginning of the month saw the return of the Neil, our beloved general manager from our time in London. Oh there were many tears when I waved him off at Tiverton Parkway on the 7th but smiles when he said he'd be back soon - We can't wait !

Now onto those fantastic ingredients with enormous thanks and gratitude to Roger andPaul at Burrow Farm at Courtneys who have supplied a fair few kilos of the finest Devon Red Ruby Bavette and Côte de Boeuf steaks. I've leaned a lot this month about cooking Côte de boeuf in the past month and by the time I'd finished cooking the last one upstairs on the grill, I'd mastered it !


Massive thanks to Greg at Devon Quality Fish for either catching or sourcing the freshest most amazing monkfish and kilos of Teignmouth and Exmouth mussels. We're looking forward to some amazing razor clams and sensational seafood for our June dishes next month.


Wonderful Victoria at The Cheese Larder in South Molton has supplied us with the most awesome selection of French or French style cheeses. One on the board this month is the most exquisite tasting brie, made here in the West Country and The smoked goats cheese, made locally, has been a complete hit this week. We cant wait to try the new blue next week.


Julie and Bela at Veg in a Box have been magnificent, supplying us with delicious local fruit and vegetables as well as lots of fabulous micro herbs and flowers to finish off each of our plates.
